Webinar: Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry – State of the Art

Join us for an insightful Webinar on Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry (MIP), a key method for analyzing pore size, particle size, and bulk density of solids, as per ISO 15901-1 standards. MIP employs non-wetting mercury to measure pore sizes from 3.6 nm to one millimeter swiftly, with no current alternatives offering such precision.

Key Highlights:

  • Comprehensive Analysis: Beyond pore size, MIP reveals pore volume, specific surface area, compressibility, and more.
  • Safety and Efficiency: Learn safe mercury handling and recycling techniques to minimize usage.
  • Diverse Applications: Explore applications in cement materials, pharmaceuticals, battery components, ceramics, and more.

Topics Covered:
  • History and development of MIP
  • Safety protocols in mercury handling
  • Fast, precise pore size measurements
  • Extensive data from a single MIP experiment
  • Real-condition measurements of moist samples

Presented by:

  • Dr. Jürgen Adolphs, Director Product Management
  • Dr Jürgen Adolphs studied physics and mathematics at the University of Göttingen with a thesis on engine acoustics (VW). He then moved to the University of Duisburg-Essen / Building Physics and Materials Science in Civil Engineering and completed his doctorate in Theoretical and Physical Chemistry on sorption modelling. This was followed by research stays in the USA at Northwestern University Evanston ILL, Advanced Cement Based Materials Center, Argonne ILL. Synchrotron Facility and NIST Gaithersburg SANS. In 2001, he joined Porotec GmbH, a company specialising in equipment for the characterisation of porous and special materials. In 2010, Jürgen became co-owner and Managing Director until 2020, when Porotec GmbH was acquired by Verder Scientific and integrated into Microtrac. Jürgen is author of more than 60 publications and active in ISO and as convenor of the DIN committee. As former head of the application centre in Haan, Jürgen now focuses on surface and porosity analysis as team leader of product management and sales manager.
